Social Work Practicum Fail #4: Not Formally Declining Placement Offers

If you've gong through the interview process with multiple agencies, within a week or so, you should start to get communications from these agencies about whether or not they are willing to take you on as a practicum student. When you've made a decision about which placement offer you're going to accept, be sure to communicate your decision to the other agencies you would be turning down. This shows that you know how to communicate in a professional manner. At the end of your email / telephone / in-person communication, be sure to thank the agency for their acceptance of you. Remember that these agencies could be great resources for your clients, future partners of your current practicum agency, or even your future employer, so you want to protect your reputation and relationship with them.
